Kids HAVE to have good, sturdy backpacks. Paying a little more in the beginning will save money in replacements throughout the year.

a handy back-to-school must have that each kid must have is one sturdy bag to last them the entire school year + a pair of equally sturdy school shoes, to boot! :)

I agree with backpack, but I also think folders are necessary for keeping things organized.
For my boys, backpacks, lunchbox, and shoes are the best since they have to wear uniforms!
